Northern Area Art News

 High School Art competition winners from Northern Mississippi

ICC High School Art competition. This show offered to the northern area schools.

Best in Show - Skylar Turner:  'Marko' - North Pontotoc - $125.00

1st Place - Maggie Cayson:  'Seeing Life In Color' - THS - $100.00

 

All Lee County Young Artist and schools are invited to participate in the Juried Gumtree Art Show. Awards are won among many of the schools that take time to participate.

 

Here is a list of this year’s senior scholarship winners:

SCHOLARSHIPS

$500 - Cara Lowry, Tupelo High School

$500 - Samantha Presley, Tupelo High School

$500 - Lexi Pund, Tupelo High School

 

There is also an area Lee County Elementary & Jr High Exhibit through the Gumtree Art Museum. Mrs. Yarbrough with Lee County Schools connects with teachers to make this happen and fill the whole Gallery.

 

Our area’s congressman participates in the US Congressional art Show in DC. Selected work hangs in either a local congressional office for the year and the top winner hangs in the rotunda of the National Capital all year and receives and trip with parents to DC for another honor in DC. The Second place winner hangs in the DC congressional office all year. Art work comes from any of the congressman’s county, city or private schools.

Top winners in the 2017 congressional Art show for Trent Kelly’s district were from Ripley High School (1st Place), and Mooreville High School (2nd Place).

 

Mooreville High School’s 2016-17 school year Trips to Exhibits Included Belz Museum Chinese Exhibit and the Dixon, State of the Art: Discovering American Art Now Exhibit.
